Sapporo is the fifth-largest city in Japan by population, and the capital of Hokkaido, which is a northern Japanese island.
Sapporo became world famous in 1972 when the Olympic Winter Games were held there.
Today, the city is well known for the annual snow festival held in February.
Sapporo has four distinct seasons, with a wide range of temperature between the summer and winter.
Summers are generally warm but not humid, and winters cold and snowy.
Hokkaido University is one of the national universities of Japan.
It is located in downtown Sapporo, just north of Sapporo Station, and stretching approximately 2.4 kilometers northward.
