The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers is an academic and@professional group aiming at developing the science and technology about measurement and control and contributing to society. The measurement and control are common to all scientific and engineering fields. It relates to all domains; not only to an engineering system but the information system, the social system, the environmental system, the living body system, for example. And it is the core of the science and technology that have brought today's prosperity.
On the other hand, measurement and control themselves understood the science and technology about information, intelligence, system theory, robotics, etc., and fast deployment has been accomplished. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers takes the initial of the name and calls an abbreviated name SICE, which is understood to be what collected the initials of sensing, instrumentation, control, system, information, computer, and ergonomics, now. It is just a universal society about such science and technology.
Regardless of a little reduction due to the economic depression of late 90's, the membership increases every year over 40 years since the foundation. It becomes the society of the national scale, which has about 8,000 private member and the supporting member who consists of 300 leading companies now. Eight Chapters are settled over the country, where regionally specific activities are carried out.
It is playing an active part as representation of Japan about measurement and control; more than 50 regular members are also in the Republic of Korea, and the several sorts of international conference is sponsored and/or cosponsored several times every year.
The monthly issued Transactions of SICE, one of the best academic activities of SICE, are open to the members to publish their research yields to get the authority. Also through the monthly issued Journal of SICE, the member is provided with the newest information about the relating fields.
Furthermore, it provides the opportunity of the academic and technical education between the members through various activities and events, such as a school about the latest topics in sciences and technology, an academic lecture meeting, symposium, an international conference, or publications. These activities are progressed under the financial support of specific funds for promotion of international activities, for publication, for society prize, for promotion of joint industry-university enterprise, etc.
We, as the member of SICE, are conscious to be a central bearer of measurement and control, and striving for both study. Since both plans about English-izing of the transactions and English official language-ization of an annual conference are on the way, we are looking forward to your joining us and playing an active part.
